DMRC goes for Rs. 310-cr expansion

    Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon start construction of an underground stretch that would extend the corridor — from the present New Delhi metro station to Dwarka Sector 21 — to Dwarka Sector 25 and link it with the upcoming exhibition cum convention centre (ECC) in Sector 25. In view of this, Airport Delhi Metro is gearing up to extend its high-speed Airport Express Line corridor deeper into Dwarka at a cost of Rs. 310 crore. DMRC has floated tenders to procure 36 coaches, which will result in six extra trains for the high-speed corridor, when the services are extended to Dwarka Sector 25 whereby the trains would be standard gauge with a top speed of 132 kmph. Since the new coaches are different from the usual coaches, DMRC won't be able to use them from its existing network for the Airport Express Line. DMRC invited open e-tenders from agencies on international competitive bidding basis for design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and training of 36 standard gauge cars for Airport Metro Express project, said executive director (corporate communication), DMRC, Anuj Dayal, adding that the The Airport Express Line will be extended to the ECC involving the extension of 1.7 km from Dwarka Sector 21 station. An underground station is planned inside the ECC complex with its connectivity to the convention centre through subways, he added.
