In a major boost to the airport project at Jewar in the NCR region, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has recently cleared Rs.330 crore to be released to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to fast track the project. With this sanction, the YEIDA will start acquiring land for the international airport, which was cleared by the Centre earlier this year, said chief executive officer, YEIDA, Arun Vir Singh. The amount is 10% of the Rs.3,000 crore required for the first phase of the project. YEIDA official said that the proposal for the land acquisition will soon be formally forwarded to the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration. In the first phase of the project, 1,200 hectares of land has to be acquired across eight villages including Runhera, Kishorepur, Mukim Sivara, Dayanatpur, Rohi, Parohi, Ramner and Banwariwaas. A government spokesperson in Lucknow said that the airport will be developed in a phased manner and on commissioning will become the second international airport in NCR.
