    In order to build world class rail road infrastructure in the north eastern region of the country, the Union government has decided place Mizoram on the railway map in the next three years with the construction of a rail and road between Sairang and Bairabi and the projects are likely to be completed in 2020, General Manager (Construction), North-East Frontier Railway, N K Prasad claimed. He said adding that the 51 km broad-gauge line between Sairang and Bairabi bordering Assam will include seven bridges and 23 tunnels and all of them would be completed by December 2020. 22 of the 23 tunnels have been drilled after a survey on the proposed 272 km long rail road from Sairang to Bangladesh border trade centre Kawrpuichhuah has already been completed, he said.
