    mega road projects
In a move that will go a long way to streamline vehicular traffic in and around Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, the state governments of Punjab and Haryana including UT of Chandigarh have approved the construction of 700 meter road between Sector 20, Panchkula, and Peer Muchalla, Punjab, and also the building of bridge on Ghaggar river to facilitate traffic. In addition, an agreement has also been reached on the construction of a southern ring road in areas of Haryana and Punjab falling in Chandigarh. The states governments and UT administration also agreed to construct an alternative road for Chandigarh International Airport and that the proposed alternative road is destined to reduce the distance between the old terminal and new airport by around 1 km. As of now, the National Highway passing though Sector 29/31/Industrial Area Phase I/ Industrial Area Phase II roundabout is the lone direct road connecting Chandigarh to international airport, which is 19 km away from Sector 17 Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). An agreement was reached on updating the comprehensive mobility plan of the Tricity by the Chandigarh administration, and participation of Haryana and Punjab in the final proposal. The administration is in process of acquiring around 50 acre of land for improving the road connectivity of Chandigarh with Mullanpur and the projects are expected to be started shortly.
