Govt. launches Rs.1,06 cr road U'khand
In an attempt to strengthen road infrastructure in the belt bordering China, the government has launched the construction work on the 150 km-long Tanakpur-Pithoragarh highway stretch in Uttarakhand. This would be an all-weather road and destined to be commissioned by 2019 at an investment of Rs.1,065 crore and aimed at providing quicker mobilization of troops and weapons to the last posts on the India-China border from the Tanakpur rail-head. Construction of the road from Tanakpur to Pithoragarh will be carried out on war footing to meet the deadline of 2019, said executive engineer of NH 125, LD Mathela, that in totality, four companies will carry out the construction process and all of them have expertise in constructing all-weather roads. The road would be 12 meter wide and once built, it will be able to bear the weight and width of all defence armaments required at the time of an emergency at border posts along the India-China border which is 200 km from the tail of the all-weather road in Pithoragarh town, he claimed.
