In an attempt to decongest the city, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is all set to float tender for the proposed ring road project starting from Satara Road to Ahmednagar Road in Pune. It is initially floating tenders for the 30 km stretch. The tender for the remaining portion of the project will be floated in the next few days and contractors will be finalized before the end of this year. The scope of work in the project entailing an investment of Rs.13,315 crore included three tunnels, three railway over bridges and one bridge over the river. Out of the total investment, the agency has sought Rs.8,700 crore from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Rs.1,000 crore loan from banks, besides raising own funds through auction of land parcels owned by the PMRDA to speed up the entire ring road project, stated an official spokesperson, PMRDA, Kiran Gitte.
