NHAI targets 10,000 km road contracts

    In a major push to the country's road infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the highways award target to 10,000 kilometers for financial year 2017-18. chairman, NHAI, Deepak Kumar, said, elaborating that the nodal road building agency and transport ministry was not satisfied with previous target of awarding 6,500 km road contracts and its highway construction target was 3,500 km for the same period. It has now decided to tender higher number of projects by December 2017.

    Quoting transport minister he said that the first phase of Bharatmala Pariyojana will start by end of 2018 and the new plan of NHAI is in process of inviting tenders for another 6,000 km by the end of this year.

    He further informed that NHAI will try to award as many projects as possible by March 2018. As of now, tenders are out for 4,500 km and will invite tenders for another 6,000 km by the end of December 2017 and by the same time it will be in a position to say that 10,000 km of roads have been tendered.
