MCGM launches Rs.3,847 cr road project

    Adding to the road infrastructure within its jurisdiction, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has recently launched construction work on the Rs.3,847-crore, 14-km long, Goregaon-Mulund-Link road (GMLR). The cost of the project was pegged at Rs.1,300 crore in 2012 now escalated due to a change in design of the project which has seen the addition of three flyovers, one underpass, one roundabout and a box tunnel under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SNGP). The ambitious project entails the construction of a five-km long, six-lane tunnel under SGNP between Film City in Goregaon to Bhandup in the central suburbs, additional commissioner, MCGM, Sanjoy Mukherjee, said that score of minor contracts have been awarded, amounting to approximately Rs.100 crore and that the MCGM has set aside a budget of Rs.2,347.72 crore in the current fiscal for GMLR and the remaining funds would be allocated in the next fiscal once the ongoing work is completed, he added.
