In a bid to build classic infrastructure in and around the city, state government has recently unveiled a development project amounting to Rs.3,568 crore for the industrial town of Amritsar. The project included the construction of Pakhowal road railway over-bridge and reconstruction of part of Jagraon Bridge. The government has released funds for construction of part of Jagraon Bridge, which was closed by the railways one year ago after being declared unsafe. The railway over-bridge, which was a longstanding demand, will be constructed under the smart city mission, for which the state government has allocated Rs.100 crore. Out of this, Rs.50 crore will be paid in the first year and the rest will be released later. The project design is yet to be finalized. The projects announced by the minister included canal-based surface water, advanced fire tender, exhibition centre, sports park, static compactors, development of Focal Point and four parks.
