    Punjab pushes flurry of infra projects
    Punjab Chief Minister recently announced a number of infra development schemes for Amritsar, including Rs.3,000 crore World Bank aided project to establish a surface water-based drinking supply system in the city. The surface water scheme will replace the existing ground water-based drinking water supply scheme, which addresses a serious concern due to depletion of the ground water and cases of vector borne diseases. The chief minister also announced several new development projects worth Rs.556.90 crore for Amritsar he also announced the establishment of a directorate of fire services at state level in the city relating to provision of free homes for homeless people and subsidised houses for economically weaker section under the Shehri Awas Yojana.
