    Ports get Rs. 2,000-cr facelift fund
    The central government has recently approved projects worth Rs 2,000 crore to beautify sea ports in Maharashtra. The decision to this effect was taken in a recent meeting held for reviewing infra projects worth Rs three lakh crore for Maharashtra, including a new project to beautify ports in and around Thane district. He said that the required funds would be provided in equal proportion by the Shipping ministry and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) after which the body will beautify Thane, till Vasai-Virar. Water transport would start along with ports, Chowpatty and gardens and that TMC will take complete responsibility for the project. When asked about other projects, Gadkari said that a total of Rs 3 lakh crore worth projects are to be taken up in Maharashtra out of which Rs 1.5 lakh crore worth projects have already started. In addition, Rs 1,000 crore have been approved by the ministry to start construction of 8-lane Thane-Bhiwandi bypass, which would start in another three months. He further said adding that that another Rs 3,000 crore were approved for the Satara-Kagal highway and has asked to start work on Mumbai-Goa highway wherever land acquisition has been completed.
