NHAI unveils new roads in NCR
In an attempt to de-congest roads in the national capital, NHAI has recently decided to build the 79-km urban extension road (UER)-2 connecting NH-1 near Narela in northwest Delhi to NH-8 near Mahipalpur in south Delhi. In addition, the nodal road building agency has also given nod for construction of Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS) projects along NH-1and NH-8. The decision will expedite the three major projects aimed at decongesting the national capital. NHAI has given in-principle approval at a meeting called by the Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) ministry, official sources said that feasibility report would be prepared in a month's time. NHAI also disclosed that HUA ministry and DDA would have to share part of the costs involved in the projects. Sharing the details of RRTS, sources said that the ground survey for alignment of the two RRTS projects has already been carried out by NCR Transport Corporation (NCTRC) and building them along NHs will significantly reduce construction time by over three years besides bringing down costs substantially.
