BMC to build cable stayed bridge

BMC to build cable stayed bridge
In its bid to ensure trouble-free ride to road users within its civic limit, BMC in a latest move has decided to build its first cable-stayed rail over bridge (ROB) at Mahalaxmi, whereby, the proposed bridge will start from the parallel lane to New Shirin Talkies at Jacob Circle (Saat Rasta) to Dr.E Moses Road near the Race Course. The plan for the bridge, which would run over the railway line, is currently awaiting sanction from railway and the project is estimated to cost Rs.80-90 crore. BMC officials said that the need for such a bridge was felt as the existing Mahalaxmi ROB is highly congested. Civic officials also pointed out that large number of residential complexes that have come up on chunks of erstwhile textile mill land have seen traffic multiply on the stretch. The Mahalaxmi ROB, which was constructed in 1920, has become overcrowded over the time and now the proposed structure would then go over the railway line and touch down at Dr.E Moses Road near the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. As the contractor cannot make use of any pillars, it proposed the bridge over a railway line, hence, the authority has decided to build a cable-stayed bridge.
