Kerala cracks NH widening project

    National Highways Authority of India
As per statement of the state government, the works to widen the National Highway from Kazhakkoottam to Mukkola went as per initial plan and work faced a slew of hurdles and now it is likely to be completed only by the end of next year. Contractor KNR Constructions has requested for an extension of 528 days due to inordinate delay in the work. With this, the work is progressing with a revised deadline of November 21, 2018. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) entered into a contract with Hyderabad-based KNR Constructions and work was started on June 12, 2015. Further, around 16 new proposals were added into the project, which were not part of the original DPR. This includes construction of foot over bridges and underpasses. As per the revised date, the contractor has to achieve third milestone - 70 % financial progress - only by April 15, 2018. As a matter of fact, the contractor is still waiting for in-principle approval from NHAI for construction of an approach to Trivandrum International Airport. NHAI has suggested construction of an elevated flyover in 1.2 km from Kazhakkoottam to Technopark, said an official spokesperson.
