The state government in Uttar Pradesh has launched drive to revive the Jewar airport project in Greater Noida in the NCR region. In this connection a high powered state government delegation met Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha to steer clear multiple projects and also negotiated proposals, including the one related to the Jewar airport. In view of the huge air passengers flow at the Lucknow airport and also in view of a 100-million footfall, expected in the next few years, the IGI airport in the national capital would become heavily crowded. Thus, the need of another airport is being felt to cater to the fast increasing foot fall and in case the Jewar airport project is executed on fast track basis the situation will improve drastically. The sources further said adding that nearly 80 per cent of transportation in Uttar Pradesh was dependent on the road network and it was necessary to boost regional air connectivity for industrial development, claimed official sources in the state.
