PWD plans three flyovers in delhi

    PWD Delhi
Ensuring smooth movement of vehicular traffic on Outer Ring Road (ORR) in the national capital, which is also a major route to IGI Airport, PWD plans to construct three new flyovers between Modi Mill and IIT Delhi. The proposal, which was submitted to Unified Traffic and Transport Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) in April, has already been put in public domain. According to PWD sources, the problem areas on ORR are on a 7.2 km stretch from IIT till the road over-bridge near Modi Mill. During peak hours, traffic crawls on this stretch as the road width is uneven and there are traffic signals. PWD will construct two half-flyovers, parallel to the existing ones at Savitri Cinema in GK-II and Kalkaji (Maa Anandmayee Marg T-junction) and then connects the road over-bridge near Modi Mill with Kalkaji flyover by constructing a 500 metre-long elevated road. Another major bottleneck is Malviya Nagar T-junction where the agency has proposed to construct a three-lane dual carriageway flyover to overcome this hurdle. In addition, there is also a plan to provide a right turn facility to people coming from Captain Gaur Marg at the ORR T-junction without disturbing the traffic. In its proposal submitted to UTTIPEC, PWD has given four options to solve the problem at this junction, which has a very high traffic volume-around 13,000 vehicles during peak hours.
