UP pushes Rs.17,187-cr e-way project

    Purvanchal Expressway
In order to build world-class road infrastructure across the state, the government in Uttar Pradesh has recently proposed 354 km long Purvanchal Expressway that will start from Lucknow and end in the eastern fringes of UP in Ghazipur. This is going to be the country‘s longest expressway linking both Ayodhya and Varanasi, two key cities of the state, said official sources in the state government. Ayodhya is among the most popular pilgrimage spots in the state along with Varanasi and the project will be taken up by the state’s Public Works Department connecting Ayodhya near Faizabad, so that pilgrims can reach Ayodhya from Lucknow in less than a couple of hours. The new expressway will cost nearly Rs.17,187 crore, which is more than Rs.13,000 crore spent by the former government on the 302 km long Agra-Lucknow expressway. Once commissioned, the Purvanchal expressway in conjunction with the Agra-Lucknow e-way and the Yamuna Expressway from Noida to Agra would enable travelers to reach one end of the state to the other in almost 12 hours.
