In its quest to build a world-class infrastructure across the state, the Karnataka government has decided to invest Rs. 7,300-cr on road and rail infra projects in and around Bengaluru city. It is actively considering introducing a sub-urban rail for the Bengaluru Metropolitan area in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways. In the road infra segment, it is building 717 km of state highways and 3,570 km of major district roads (MDR) this year. This is in addition to the plans to develop 2,795 km of state highways and 1,520 km of MDRs at a cost of Rs. 3,500-cr under the State Highway Development Project's Phase-3 program. The new start-up policy brought out by the government has helped the state in retaining its prime global position with respect to start-ups, said sources, adding that over 4,000 start-ups had received investments of over $1 billion in the last two years.
