AP gets Rs. 1,982-cr for infra project

    Arun Jaitley Chandrababu Naidu
In a major boost to the water infrastructure of Andhra Pradesh, the Centre has recently provided a loan assistance of Rs. 1,982-cr for the Polavaram irrigation project and the move would minimize the negative impact of distrust that had crept in after the AP re-organization of the state in 2014, said official sources claiming that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley handed over the cheque to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently. To support the Polavaram Project — which has been declared as national project, the government of the day has used the instrumentality of Nabard to complete the mega project. Under the arrangement, Nabard has sanctioned Rs. 2,981-cr to the NWDA, which is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the Water Resources Ministry. In fact, Nabard has given funds to the Centre which is providing the required support to Andhra Pradesh‘s Polavaram project, said Chairman, Nabard, Harshkumar Bhanwalla. The project in question is being constructed on River Godavari at an estimated investment of Rs. 16,010.45-cr and is cleared by Technical Advisory Committee of the Water Resources Ministry to provide irrigation facilities to 7.20 lakh acre, diversion of 80TMC of Godavari water to Krishna River and also 23.44 TMC of water for the industries in and around Visakhapatnam.
