Shipping sector gets Rs. 670-cr booster

    Injecting a major booster to the country's shipping sector, the government has decided to develop non-major ports at an investment of Rs. 670cr, said sources, claiming that financial support is being provided to the all the ports and state governments for creation of infrastructure to promote movement of cargo and passengers by sea or National Waterways. On this score, five projects of coastal berth have already been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 190-cr with central share of Rs. 105-cr and proposal of Rs. 480-cr for 29 projects have been submitted by the state governments, which are taking active interest in the scheme. In Andhra Pradesh, the Port Department has a proposal to construct nine passenger jetties.
