Cabinet clears Rs. 11,522-cr metro project

    In a major booster to the transport facilities of the area, the Union Cabinet has recently given the go ahead signal for the Rs.11, 522 crore Pune metro rail project.

    The proposal, which has been submitted to the Union urban development ministry, which subsequently cleared it and had sent the same to the Union cabinet for final approval, said official sources, adding that earlier in August, the Pune Municipal Corporation had obtained a clearance from the railways for the revised estimate announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in June 2015 envisaging a hike of Rs 653 crore from the 2014 estimate. The alignment of the route was shifted from JM Road to the sides Mutha river. The city's metro rail project received the much-needed boost with the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank approving a loan of Rs 6,325 crore for the project and the PMC has already made a provision of Rs 67 crore for the project in question, they claimed.
