Govt. clears Rs. 6,067-cr highway projects

    Injecting yet another booster to the road building process in the country, the government has approved 12 highway projects of Rs. 6,067.9-cr crisscrossing eight states including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Uttarakhand, said official sources, claiming that most of the 476-km projects are being awarded under engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode. Out of the total projects, nine are in EPC mode, two in hybrid annuity and the remaining one in OMT (operate-maintain-transfer) mode. Four of the projects located in the north-east cover NH-39 and NH-415 and they also included widening and upgrading the existing highways. The three projects for Maharashtra pertain to two and four-laning of highway stretches on NH-930, NH-211 (New NH-52) and NH-211 (New NH-52). The Goa project is for construction of Margaon Western NH Bypass for NH-17 (New NH-66). Similarly, in West Bengal, project pertains to four-laning of Kolaghat to Haldia section of NH-41 with ROB-cum-Flyover while rehabilitation and upgrading of Barhani-Kataya Chowk near Shohratgarh section of NH-730. The approvals also included the reconstruction with geometric improvement of two lanes with paved shoulders covering sections of NH-125 in the hill state of Uttarakhand, they claimed.
