In a major booster to the state's road sector, the Union Surface Transport Ministry has recently sanctioned Rs. 3,589-cr under the Central Road Fund for 2016-17 for Karnataka, said transport ministry sources, adding that out of the total funds, about Rs. 452-cr would be allotted to Dharwad district to construct concrete roads of which again Rs. 358-cr would be spent for developing roads in the twin cities. Thirteen main roads in Hubballi, six main roads in Dharwad, and nine roads in Hubballi and Dharwad talukas would be converted to concrete roads. On this score, the tender process is expected to be completed in four months and the works would begin by March or April. In addition, there is a plan to upgrade Neeligin Road between Sharada Hotel and KIMS; and the one that passes in front of Woodlands Hotel, into four lanes. Roads would be widened in all places where ever there are no land acquisition issues, he added.
