Chennai airport gets Rs. 2,100-cr makeover

    Chennai Airport
Addressing a series of complaints emanating from various quarters on Chennai airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has recently decided to build a new terminal ensuring smooth air operations at an investment of about Rs. 2,100cr. The nodal aviation agency plans to inject a complete facelift to the old terminal, which is flanked by two new terminals at the airport.

AAI has decided to build a new terminal and the reconstruction will not just resolve all complaints related to its maintenance but will also help increase the passengers and cargo handling capacities, said a senior AAI official, adding that the airport in Chennai was upgraded and modernized by the AAI in 2013 at an investment of over Rs. 2,000-cr and that the current expansion, which is likely to be completed by 2020-21, is estimated to cost a bit higher but it would increase its capacity to 30 million per annum as against 23 million currently.
