In order to de-congest Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi from air traffic, the Union government is actively contemplating to build second airport in the National Capital Region (NCR). At present, two proposals are under consideration of the Civil Aviation Ministry but a final decision in this regard is expected very shortly, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma said, elaborating that of the two proposals - one for Jewar in Gautam Budha Nagar and other is for Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. As a matter of fact, Delhi airport along with other metro airports witnessed an increased load due to the (enhanced) regional connectivity and in view of this, the government will have to construct a new airport in NCR at the earliest. Apart from these two locations, the state government in Haryana has also recently jumped into fray and sent a proposal for an airport in Rohtak district of the state, he added.
