Railways fast tracks Rs. 82,000cr DFC corridor

    In order to fast track the three corridors envisaged in the current Budget entailing an investment worth Rs. 82,000cr, feasibility study has been completed and submitted by RITES, Managing Director, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC), Adesh Sharma, claimed, adding that Ministry of Railways is implementing the DFCC project. The new corridors included 2,328-km North-South corridor between Delhi and Chennai; 2,327-km East-West corridor between Kolkata and Mumbai; and 1,114-km East Coast corridor between Kharagpur and Vijaywada. As a matter of fact, two contracts worth Rs 2,300-cr for work on the SaharanpurLudhiana and Khurja-Dadri sections and another contract of Rs. 900-cr would very shortly be issued for Kanpur-Mughalsarai section of the Eastern DFCC. With entire funding tied-up and contracts in place, the entire DFCC project would be implemented in a phased manner by December 2019, said official sources.
