MP goes for light metro projects

    Madhya Pradesh Light Metro Projects
The state government in Madhya Pradesh has decided to build light metro rail instead of metro rail in the state capital in Bhopal and also in Indore where there will be driverless train and that the mega projects are being financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has already agreed to fund the twin projects. However, the central government is expected to give a go-ahead this month as the state government had submitted the detailed project report to the centre on January 19, this year. The light metro rail will be 70% cheaper than the metro rail. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has developed light metro rail system for the tier 2 cities of the country, officer on special duty, Kamal Nagar said, adding that the light metro rail would be very effective in Bhopal as it would offer a fast mode of transport to the residents. In fact, there is a lot of demand for metro rail from second tier cities because of traffic congestion and concern about pollution but high cost is a problem and that a km of underground for metro trains costs Rs 400-cr and elevated line costs Rs 200-cr but light metro rail will be much cheaper, he said.
