Smart City drive takes 13 more clusters on board

    Smart City Drive
In the on-going process of building 100 smart cities across the country in the next five years, the Central government recently added 13 more urban clusters in the existing list of 20 cities selected earlier. Lucknow, New Town in Kolkata, Bhagalpur in Bihar, and Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh are among others to be developed as smart cities. Similarly, Chandigarh, Faridabad, Raipur, Ranchi, Warangal, Agartala, Imphal, Port Blair, and Panaji are the other cities chosen through a fast-track competition. The program has been aimed at changing the way urban India lives, smart cities will enjoy uninterrupted power and water supplies, internet connectivity, e-governance along with quality infrastructure. It may be recalled that in January, when the first 20 smart cities were announced, the Urban Development Ministry had come under fire for leaving out cities from non-NDA states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and, West Bengal, which prompted the government to come out with the latest list covering these states.
