France injects Rs. 850cr in Kochi metro project

    Kochi Metro Project
The metro agency, which is currently engaged in building a pedestrian walkway-cum-cycle track matching global standards with French technical help in Panampilly Nagar, posh residential area at Kochi area of Kerala, has secured Rs. 850-cr loans from France. It has mooted a similar project linking Ernakulam Boat Jetty with Maharajas College ground and yet another one on M.G. Road, said official sources, claiming that the financial aid is also expected to procure a fleet of 100 electric feeder buses for the metro line-stations with suburban towns, improving inter-modal connectivity and also upgrading patronage for the metro rail corridor.

Solar-powered utilities are aimed at promoting eco-friendly and sustainable development initiatives. The detailed project report (DPR) for the metro's Kakkanad extension has already been approved by State government recently. Currently, allied work is under way to prepare supplementary DPRs for the three other initiatives so that the projects can be combined together for securing further loan from France, they added.
