NHAI plans Rs. 55,000cr for road sector

    In its quest to achieve the targeted road length in the current financial year, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in a latest move has decided to generate a whopping sum worth Rs 55,000-cr to fund the on-going and new projects in the country's road and highway sector. Ministry and the NHAI have jointly proposed to construct maximum possible number of kilometres of National Highways during the fiscal and that the borrowed funds would be utilised towards financing of various projects being implemented by NHAI under the National Highways Development Project and other national highways' projects. As a matter of fact, emphasis will be on the ongoing projects and also various special projects. During the fund generation process, the nodal agency plans to raise Rs 5,000-cr through capital gain bonds and Rs 50,000-cr through taxable bonds or other similar instruments as the government has already permitted NHAI of borrowing of Rs 59,279-cr during 2016-17.
