Govt targets Rs. 25 lakh-cr infra investment

    Targeting an astounding investment worth Rs. 25 lakh-cr in the country's infra segments comprising roads, railway, and shipping where projects included the development of 27 industrial clusters at ports at around Rs. 8 lakh-cr, Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari said, elaborating that his ministry is committed to overhaul country's infrastructure and gradually working towards achieving this target. Apart from this, the government will invest another Rs. 5 lakh-cr on building the allied port infra including road, railway and ports connectivity projects. Besides, smart cities will be built at ports which will entail a huge investment. He said concerted efforts by his ministry to expedite road projects has started bearing fruits and the road building pace, which was barely 2 km a day when the Narendra Modi government took over, has reached 20 km a day and will touch 25 km a day next month. The government has already steered cleared 403 stalled projects worth Rs. 3.35 lakh-cr and that out of the recently cleared six planned ports in the country, three alone at Tamil Nadu, West Bengal as well as Maharashtra would entail a staggering investment worth Rs. 60,000cr, he added.
