TN plans Rs. 538cr road upgrade

    The State Highways department in a recent decision has cleared the widening of the Pollachi road into a four-lane with a length of 25-km from bypass road junction to Aatchipatti at an investment of Rs. 500-cr and construction work on the project in question is set to start very shortly. The project will include bridges at Othakalmandapam and Kinathukadavu and both the projects do not have land acquisition tangles and will ease traffic congestions and reduce the travelling time. Apart from this, the road widening works taken up recently at Coimbatore, Pollachi and Udumalpet (NH 209) are also set to be completed in the next 4-5 months, said official sources adding that the project has been taken up by the National Highways wing of the State Highways department under the road safety segment. The works started three months ago to widen the road into a four lane one at a total cost of Rs. 22-cr including Pollachi worth Rs. 6cr, Udumalpet Rs. 6-cr and Coimbatore Rs. 10cr.
