NHAI launches FASTag on toll plazas

    NHAI Toll Plaza FASTag
Ensuring smooth and hassle free movement of vehicular traffic across the country, the National Highways Authority of India has recently rolled out cashless payment mechanism (FASTag) on toll plazas on the national highways. The FASTag, which was formally launched at a toll plaza of NH-8 at CTM in Ahmedabad, offers near non-stop movement of vehicles through toll plazas and convenience of cashless payments of toll fee with nationwide inter operable Electronic Toll Collection Services. FASTag has a onetime fee of Rs 200 and is affixed on the wind screen of the vehicle. It employs RFID technology for making toll payments directly from the pre-paid account linked to it. A vehicle using FASTag will use dedicated FASTag lane to have cashless travel. FASTag will be available on sale from selected toll plazas on highways and designated branches of participating banks. Government has also allowed NHAI to give 10% cash back incentive on toll payments in financial year 2016-17 for FASTag users whereby the amount will be credited back to the FASTag account at the beginning of the next month, said official sources.
