Karnataka gets Rs. 1,621-cr road project

The Union Cabinet in a recent move has approved the development of a four-laning of the Hospet-Bellary-Karnataka border section of the National Highway-63 in Karnataka entailing an investment worth Rs 1,621cr. The 95.3 Kilometer project will be commissioned on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis under Phase-IV of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP). The project is aimed at expediting infrastructure improvement in Karnataka and reducing the time and cost of heavy traffic plying on the Bellary section of the national highway. In addition, the construction of the project will also help in uplifting the socio-economic condition of the regions of the state and increasing the employment potential for local youths. It required 4,076 mandays for construction of one kilometer of highway stretch. Employment potential of 388,728 mandays will be generated locally during the construction period, said NHAI sources.
