In an attempt to help the efforts initiated by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) to make the city slum-free the Union government has approved Rs 257-cr for the housing schemes for poor under the Prime Minister Avas Yojna (PMAY) whereby funds were allocated shortly after the state government announced the scheme for 'unattainable slum re-location' for which it has already submitted a detailed project report in February this year. As a matter of fact, the civic body got the approval for the four projects after undergoing multiple layers of process as the Union ministry of housing and poverty alleviation's Central Steering and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) approved four housing schemes for Rajkot city, commissioner Vijay Nehra, said adding that the four slums identified under the scheme include Laludi Vonklo, Ramnathpara, Bhavaninagar, and Sagarnagar. Out of these, Laludi Vonklo, Ramnathpara and Bhavaninagar are located along the Aji river bank and in its entirety a total number of 3,600 houses will be built under the four schemes whereby each housing unit will be of 30sqmt area (1 BHK) and all four projects will be equipped with the modern civic amenities, he added.
