Govt hikes projects award targets to 12,000kms

    Close on the heels of achieving the target of awarding 10,000 kms length during the outgoing fiscal, the road transport and highways ministry has set a higher road building goal worth 12,000 kms including the award and the construction of highways during the next fiscal year. Last year, about 8,000 kms road lengths were awarded and that the target for awarding works during 2016-17 has been fixed higher resulting a whopping spurt worth 20%, entailing a staggering investment of about Rs 1.5 lakh-cr. The target for completion has been increased to 10,000 kms against 6,300 kms in 2015-16 and that the transport ministry has approved and decided to increase the award target for NHAI for 2016-17 to 6,000 kms and construction target to 3,000 kms, claimed official sources.
