    Housing sector gets Rs. 4,076cr funding booster

    In the on-going initiative providing affordable housing units to the needy, the ministry of housing and poverty alleviation in a recent move has injected a staggering sum worth Rs. 4,076-cr to build 81,757 houses for economically weaker sections and lower strata of the society, said an official spokesperson, adding that the ministry will provide total central assistance of Rs.1,226-cr involving about Rs. 1.50 lakh per housing unit to be built for the benefit of urban poor under the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana (Urban). The targeted housing units will be built in 163 cities and under the provision West Bengal has been sanctioned 27,830 houses in 38 cities, followed by Telangana (22,817 houses in 45 cities) , Bihar (13,315 homes in 40 cities), Mizoram (8,922 houses in six cities), Rajasthan (6,052 homes in nine cities), Jharkhand (2,337 homes in 24 cities) and Uttarkhand (484 houses in Dehra Dun). Of the housing units sanctioned under the 'Housing for All' mission, 58,456 dwellings will be built under the 'Beneficiary Led Construction' component whereby the beneficiaries will build houses on their own land with assistance from the Centre and State governments. Apart from this, another 23,301 houses will be built under 'Affordable Housing in Partnership' component under which State governments will provide land and the Centre gives an assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh per beneficiary.
