Nagpur unveils Rs. 1,477-cr river project

    In order to reshape the shabby condition of the iconic Nag river, the state government of Maharashtra under the stewardship of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finalized the detailed project report (DPR) for the Nag river at an investment of Rs. Rs 1,477cr. The scope of work in the project entailed identifying and building sewage water inlets, collect and treat it, and release it back into the river. The new plan aims at both north and central sewage projects and they have been clubbed with this plan whereby the NMC will take technical and financial sanction followed by tendering process and execution of works after getting approval and funds from the Centre, said sources adding that the civic body has also planned to construct public toilets along the river to prevent open defecation, development of religious nodes and ghats, food plaza and cafeterias, educational node, among others. Mass awareness on prevention from pollution of river and importance of saving the river is also part of the plan. NMC will be seeking funds under the Centre's AMRUT scheme for the plan and authorities also exploring the possibilities of getting loan at low interest rate from offshore sources.
