RMC plans Rs1,180-cr infra upgrade

    In its quest to build a world class city, the standing committee of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) recently set aside a staggering sum worth Rs. 1,180-cr for the development of the city. Of the targeted budget, the highest amount of Rs 232-cr will be spent on sewerage and drainage while Rs. 42-cr will go for solid waste management. This apart, other major expenditures include Rs 59.56-cr for Basic Services to Urban Poor, Rs 22-cr for beautification and development of 21 ponds in the city, Rs 20.20-cr for road construction, Rs. 10-cr for new water supply and missing pipeline links, Rs. 12-cr for sanitary facilities. Apart from budget, other major decisions also included passing of new regulation for water connection which would reduce the cost of getting new connection for people, deputy mayor Sanjiv Vijayavargiya said, claiming that those who have a holding and want to take connection from the old pipeline will have to pay only Rs 500 against the previous charges of Rs 4,000 and those without holding, will shell out Rs 2,500 as against Rs 4,500 earlier.
