In this connection, its officials recently held a meeting with the department of urban development in Lucknow to discuss an improvement plan for the proposal. The revised proposal with the improvement plan incorporated into it will be sent to the urban development ministry for assessment and selection in the second round of the Smart City Mission. As a matter of fact, a large number of aspects in the earlier proposal need to be revised as per the guidelines and recommendations are being invited from members of the general public for inclusion in the fresh proposal, which will be sent to the union urban development ministry after vetting it through the Lucknow-based Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES). It may be recalled that a total number of 12 cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, had been shortlisted by the state government to be developed as smart cities in the first phase of the central government mission, however, not a single city from the state figured in the final list of 20 cities that were declared for development in the first phase of the mission, said official sources.
