Decks cleared for Rs. 365-cr road project

    Kerala Road Upgradation
The decks have been cleared for the Thalassery-Valavupara road upgrading work under the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) Phase 2, entailing a combined investment worth Rs. 365cr, claimed official sources, adding that the work for the second reach was caught up in issues over tender acceptance and that the high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary solved the technical issue and that the Perumbavur-based construction company that was awarded the second reach is expected to start the construction work very shortly. The joint venture group that has been awarded the first reach work has set up a bitumen hot mix plant at Valiyavelicham, near Koothuparamba and that the player is expected to start the work with the mobilization of initial funds. As per the original plan, the upgrading work should have been completed by December 2014. Though the completion date was extended to April 23, 2015, only nine per cent of the work had been completed as against the targeted achievement of 68 per cent, after which the contract was terminated. The scope of work in the upcoming project includes improvement of gradient, widening and strengthening of the road, reconstruction of seven bridges, and construction of 162 culverts, they added.
