Plans afoot for new road in Mohali

    Chandigarh Mohali Airport Road
In order to improve connectivity between Chandigarh and the International Airport at Mohali, a new road connecting old terminal with the newer one is on the cards, said sources, adding that the proposal of a connecting road would require about 85 acres in Chandigarh and the remaining space in Mohali areas. Currently, NH-21, close to the Tribune roundabout, is the only the direct road connecting Chandigarh with airport, which is 19 km away from Sector 17 Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The proposed road will reduce the distance between old terminal and new airport by around 1 km. The Chandigarh administration, in its Master Plan 2031, has emphasized on improving connectivity with the airport and has suggested three options to access the new airport. The plan suggested that the new terminal should be made accessible from the city by an underground tunnel while other options include connectivity from Purv Marg near Sector 48 and from the Zirakpur side. Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has come up with an airport expressway that connects the Chandigarh-Patiala Road and Mohali-Kharar Road to the new airport.
