Terex India: Advanced Crushing & Screening and Pick N Carry Cranes
Terex India, Jaideep Shekhar - VP & Managing Director APAC & EMEAR
Terex remains optimistic about the Indian market, focusing on sustained expansion and increased product localization; it enjoys a strong brand recall in the market for crushing and screening, pick and carry cranes, and the more recent solutions for waste recycling.
Terex entered the Indian market in 2000 with a primary focus on serving the mining industry. The initial emphasis was on crushing and screening products, where we garnered a significant market share, particularly in track-mounted crushers. As the market expanded, the company solidified its presence as a robust domestic brand, showcasing its ability to export products manufactured in India.
Expanding product portfolio and manufacturing facility
Today, Terex is one of the most established quarrying and mining solution providers, known for regularly adding new products to its product portfolio. We are exploring other product categories and have introduced environmental processing products in response to India’s rapid adoption of recycling techniques for construction and municipal solid waste. We have also recently launched the 17-ton and 20-ton cranes, with plans to introduce additional capacity cranes in the coming months, for the fast growing material handling market.Foreseeing growth trends in India and export opportunities, the company plans to expand its manufacturing facility and increase localization of its products and is constructing a new facility for its Franna cranes in Hosur. These initiatives are aligned with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative, fostering local manufacturing, job creation, and economic growth.
The company is investing heavily in technology to improve its manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and customer service. Its software solutions manage diverse processes, providing data on product design, manufacturing, spare parts inventory, machine performance, and IoT-based insights from jobsites. This digital thread connects products, factories, jobsites, and offices, fostering efficient interaction. It offers world-class customer services through a network of parts warehouses, service engineers, and comprehensive training programs on its machines.
Two new groundbreaking products launched
The newly launched Powerscreen Warrior 1200 Hybrid Screen is a testament to Terex’s commitment to technological advancement and sustainability goals. It is innovatively designed to enhance operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The new Terex Washing Systems FM200 Double Wash is an integrated washing solution to cater to a wide range of feed materials; it can produce up to three washed and sized products. It is designed to maximize slit removal by washing it twice through multiple cyclones, and ultimately maximize recovery so that more saleable material is produced.
Committed to sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability extends to waste management and recycling with the launch of the Electric Slow Speed Shredder TDS 820e that can process various materials. Featuring a robust electric/hydraulic drive system, it delivers an optimal blend of efficiency, control, and performance, contributing to environmentally responsible practices. Our recent products and solutions not only meet customer demand, and drive operational efficiency, but also contribute to a more environmentally conscious and responsible future.
Investing in electric machines
Terex is expanding its operations in India to meet evolving customer demands with a focus on sustainability. The company is investing in electric-driven machines such as the electric Finlay 690i Hybrid Mobile Screen and is introducing a new range of pick and carry cranes from Franna, rough terrain cranes from RT Cranes, compact crushers from EvoQuip, and trommels for recycling systems. These initiatives underscore Terex’s commitment to innovation and addressing the specific needs of the Indian market, contributing to the growth of its business in the region.Striking a competitive balance between local and multinational manufacturers
Terex adeptly manages competition with local and multinational manufacturers by leveraging its role as a global manufacturing hub in Hosur, and consistently strengthens its presence in India’s Construction Equipment industry through innovation and expansion. Over the past 12 years, our growth has been significant, evolving from four models in 2009 to an extensive portfolio of close to 90 models in 2023, encompassing various brands. This growth includes the introduction of new products and innovative variants, and our commitment to adopting advanced technologies. Our new product development projects are tailored for India’s regional markets and to address diverse needs for crushing, screening, washing, lifting, conveying, and recycling applications.
Ensuring maximum machine uptime with timely service
Terex has a dedicated service team, deployed both through dealers and internally, for ensuring safe and efficient operation of its machines. It ensures maximum machine uptime through a robust distribution network with warehouses for spare parts delivery, even in remote infrastructure projects or mining areas, and leverages telematics for proactive maintenance and predictive analytics, allowing timely preventive measures. Our Digital Solutions business unit set up in 2021 consolidated our customer-facing digital capabilities, including telematics and an online parts inventory management for dealers and end-users to enhance productivity and efficiency. The telematics platforms offer valuable insights, enabling proactive maintenance, while the online parts inventory tool streamlines forecasting and planning processes, facilitating quick and efficient replenishment.
We are also investing in technology across our distribution channels so that we can manage inventory digitally and thereby ensure quicker availability of parts for our customers to increase their machine uptime. These strategies have made Terex a trusted partner for quarry and mine owners worldwide.
Extending consumable life for plant owners
We offer a range of wear parts tailored to specific applications, ensuring the machine achieves maximum wear life and optimal performance in varying site conditions. Our focus on wear part design and selection helps extend consumable life and thereby minimizes per-ton cost for plant owners. We undertake research and development in metrology to enhance precision and thereby get a competitive edge in the market.Decarbonization a top priority
Terex India is responding to the industry’s decarbonisation challenge by providing solutions that work towards minimising environmental impact and greater sustainability. In fact, the mobile concept of our crushing and screening products has always contributed towards decreasing the carbon footprint per ton of material produced. This is done by reducing unnecessary material handling of moving and loading material to static plants in aggregate production or in the ability to recycle and reuse material at point of use, for example in road building projects where sub-base material is produced on site.We are actively advancing our electrification program, with approximately 60% of our overall materials processing product portfolio in India being electric or hybrid. Our focus on environmental processing equipment (a rapidly growing segment for the past five years) has led us to introduce recycling and shredding machines in India.
Over 100 of our screening machinery are currently operating in India to clean up waste landfills and urban areas. All our equipment contributes to the circular economy, reducing carbon footprints and enhancing material utilization. This commitment aligns with Terex’s emphasis on sustainability, anticipating significant growth opportunities for customers in this field as the circular economy becomes a megatrend in the coming years.
