India’s infrastructure development needs mass production plants like MASA
Says Mr. Abraj Vettuparampil, Managing Director, MASA India

MASA key to success?
MASA established in 1905 and is supplying block making machines worldwide. We have about 2000 machines running worldwide with an aggregate production capacity of about 5 million square meters of pavers everyday. We have seen both world wars and still running strong because our machines are made to last generations. See, you can sell a product with a quality tongue or a quality product. We preferred the latter and that’s the key to our success.

MASA leadership in this industry?
MASA always strive to supply the best machine in the world to its customers. The market placed us higher from the crowd because of our products quality, consistency and reliability. Also, we don’t discriminate between countries or customers. Our machines sold in India can be sold to any other country because we have only one standard for our engineering and safety standards which will comply to the standard of any country.

How do MASA see the India market?
We see huge potential in India due to the urgent infrastructure development all around the country. India needs mammoth development within short period where you need mass production capacity units. MASA machines can supply high volume concrete products with consistency in quality and texture. We also provide a one stop solution to our customers through turnkey projects supplying all equipment required to establishing the plant. In India, we are blessed with the international exposure of major contractors and consultants who know about MASA and its leadership in rest of the world.

Do you have much competition in India?
India’s infrastructure development needs mass production plants like MASA
Many competitors have come and gone during the last 106 years of our existence which also helped us to grow and differentiate ourselves to the current leadership role in the industry. We are now segmented as a premium machine manufacturer where there are not many others. I don’t think a customer looking to produce 100,000 hollow block of 8" size or 8000 square meters of pavers or 15 kilometres of kerbstones every- day got much choice other than MASA. Also, it depends on the customers as well. You can start a business with cheap machines but then you will end up with quick asset replacement. We make machines to last 30-40 years and some of our machines have seen three generations of ownership.

What is MASA leadership in eco-friendly manufacturing?
In India, the general consensus is that safe and eco-friendly manufacturing have a direct impact on profitability. Masa machines stood the test of time proving that successful business is achievable without compromising safety or environmental safe manufacturing. Our machines are manufactured to one international safety standard and also environmental complimen- tary using wastage such as fly ash to produce concrete products with zero wastage. During Excon 2011, our focus is to spread the message across the industry that successful business is achievable without compromising people and environmental safety.
