CREDAI: Upskilling Construction Workforce & Promoting Worker Welfare
The last couple of years have seen unprecedented increase in residential and commercial real estate development. The sudden uptake in construction activity requires skilled manpower to cater to the ever-increasing construction activities. The absence of skilled engineers and workers in such a scenario leads to increase in wastage, delayed timelines, compromised quality, and unhappy customers.
Credai has been actively involved in skilling engineers and construction workers. It conducts upskilling programs for engineers across the country to ensure that their practical know-how is up-to-date with industry standards. In the past 15 years, the Association has trained and certified more than one lakh construction workers, while also ensuring safety and social skills training to workers. Credai Pune Metro’s Kushal Committee has been at the forefront of this activity.
The government needs to utilise the labour cess funds to provide skill training to construction workers: Before Covid, the Indian government was supporting the skilling of construction workers through programs like RPL and Bridge RPL. To ensure better livelihood for construction workers and better housing for the citizens, the government needs to utilise the labour cess funds to provide active skill training to construction workers. A large amount of cess is collected from developers for the welfare of labour, which should be utilised effectively and soon.
A total of 1,00,000 workers have been trained by Credai Kushal, in various schemes such as:
