2017 is one of the best years for Crushing & Screening Industry as it saw strong demand of equipment. We launched many new key models for the various brands under Terex Materials Processing Group, this year, to help our customers to optimize their operational costs.

How has 2017 been for the quarrying sector in view of denomination, new emission norms, and GST?


We have seen one of the best years as far as the Crushing & Screening Industry is concerned. There has been strong demand for crushing and screening equipment all through the year, and we are also seeing a healthy backlog in the coming months. Our industry has not seen any negative impact with the coming of the GST regime. Infact, numerous new road projects have been announced, which has fueled demand for equipment.

What new products have been launched by Terex this year?

The year 2017 saw the launch of many new and key models for various brands in the Terex Materials Processing Group. We launched the new Powerscreen Warrior 1200 screens from our India factory, and also the range of Track Conveyors like CT 65 and CT 80.

Under our Modular Product range, we launched new High Frequency Screens. These screens will help customers meet the sand specification requirements in areas where water is in short supply.

We launched the FM 60 cyclone-based washing solutions from our India factory. This again has seen very high demand due to increase in sand washing requirements.

One of the key new launches has been the SWIFT range of Wheel Mounted Crushing & Screening Plants. These plants are very easy to install and do not require any civil foundations if the land is compact. This concept saves precious project time, which was earlier consumed in the preparation of civil foundations. There is minimal onsite erection work, and a two-stage crushing plant can be put up very quickly if the site is ready.

What initiatives does Terex take for skill development of its manpower to run the plant on its rated capacity?

Availability of skilled manpower remains a challenge especially when you are dealing with an unprecedented ramp-up in production due to market demand. We have now structured our operations in a fashion which allows us to continuously train the new manpower who come onboard, and the production supervisors play an important role in this process. We also continuously track the skill matrix of the team and plan the training in a manner that they become multi-skilled for various operation areas within the factory.

We run training programs at our factory in Hosur where operators from across the country are trained with the best practices of crushing & screening equipment maintenance. We also conduct regular training programs at customer sites to train their operators.

There is a growing requirement from customers for tailor made solutions that include customization, design, delivery, and installation. How does Terex meet these demands?

At Terex, we continuously strive to meet the needs of the local customers by launching new products as well as adding new features in the existing range of products to maximize customers’ return on investment.

Our various new products launched this year will help customers optimize their operational costs. One good example is the track conveyor, which will enable customers to have a much larger product stockpile capacity than the conventional plants. It replaces the requirement of a wheel loader to continuously move material, which means larger savings on diesel consumption, and reduced requirement of manpower as the person operating the crushing plant can operate the track conveyor as well. The track conveyor can also be retrofitted into any existing plant and be very easily moved around.

Per ton cost is the new norm, while deciding on a plant. How is Terex bringing down the cost per ton?

Cost per ton is an important metric which the customers are increasingly looking at these days. However, this is also dependent on many factors like the material characteristics, plant operation, product requirement, and energy consumption. We are offering Annual Maintenance packages (AMC) to all our customers. The AMC gives them peace of mind as well as clarity on their total cost of operations as the per ton maintenance cost is fixed by the OEM.

Another important aspect is to have optimum operational parameters. This can be achieved by having trained manpower operating the plant and for maintenance.

What Telematics services is Terex providing to its customers?

We would be the first company in the Crushing & Screening domain in India to launch Telematics on our Track Mobile range of equipment, next year. This will give customers access to complete information on the machine such as the production data, performance data and other vital parameters. This will be especially beneficial for large companies who operate a fleet of crushers at various sites, as the Telematics will enable them to get all the information on their fleet of machines at their head office or technical division.

What kind of onsite support does Terex provide at mining & quarry sites?

We aim to be the closest to the customers when it comes to parts and service support. With this in mind, we are now operating four regional warehouses at Hosur, Gurgaon, Nagpur, and Kolkata. In addition to these, we have numerous parts stocking points which are operated by our distribution partners across the country.

We have over 25 service locations across the country where our skilled service engineers are located. This is in addition to the service manpower of our distribution partners, and which is available at different locations.

We have seen very positive response from our customers for the investment we have made in our service and parts operations. This is also visible in the multifold growth in our aftermarket and machine revenues, which would not have been possible without the support of the customers who have a very positive experience of Terex’s aftermarket support capabilities.
