Shell Lubricants India showcases B2B service capabilities

Shell Lubricants India is aiming to help customers reduce total cost of ownership, bring down cost/hour of production, and widen its business footprint with its comprehensive B2B services in the CE sector. NBM Media reports

Shell Lubricants India showcased its B2B Services portfolio at a recent event in New Delhi. The company aims to reduce equipment users’ operating costs while enhancing the productivity of their equipment, especially in industrial applications and also in On and Off highway mobile and stationery machines. Services include predictive and preventive maintenance through condition monitoring analysis and providing solutions through digital interface via IoT.

Gareth Flood, Chief Marketing Officer, and Praveen Nagpal, Chief Technology Officer, Shell Lubricants India, elaborated: “Shell offers its services globally. In India, need for equipment availability is growing with increasing construction work across all sectors. To address the CE industry’s concern on machine downtime, we have decided to increase awareness of our wide range of services, which will enable plant and machinery owners and the OEMs to focus on their machine’s core work, while we take care of their machines’ timely maintenance and ensure their availability to the maximum possible, such that productivity is not hampered. We suggest the right lubricants and extend the necessary technical services.”

They added, “Shell, which has been monitoring the condition of machines since 2005, has the technical expertise based on research and development. By extending its B2B services to the CE industry at large, it will bring down operational efficiencies, deliver cost-effective management, and enhance productivity.”

Shell’s B2B Services

The services are delivered by highly trained Shell technical staff, that include helpdesks and lubrication engineers in the field.
  • Lube Analyst entails regular health check of the machines with oil condition monitoring to help identify potential oil or equipment condition.
  • Lube Advisor helps onsite operators to improve the lubrication and maintenance of their equipment and vehicles and assists them in selecting the right Shell lubricant.
  • Lube Coach is a customized, work-shop-based training program designed to provide practical insights into enhancing lubricant and component life.
  • Lube Chat is an interactive platform that delivers information on real time.
  • Lube Match helps equipment users to select the right engine oil.
  • Machine Max is based on telematics to help equipment operators gather information on operational parameters.
  • Lube Expert helps in predictive maintenance by undertaking shutdown inspection, operational inspection, etc.
According to Flood and Nagpal, the company undertakes regular R&D to develop new products to meet the changing customer requirements.

“Our new lubricants will help equipment deliver higher productivity and increase its uptime. The right viscosity index is the most important constituent of a lubricant. Our GTL- based lubricant, for instance, provides energy efficiency in the engine, hydraulics and gear oils. Oils based on GTL technology, especially wind turbine oils, provide the right level of oxidation stability. Our products are developed in consultation with OEMs and the end-users for condition monitoring etc, and the equipment tested in an actual field condition.”

As regards plugging the gaps in operational efficiencies due to lack of data on machine performance and maintenance, Flood and Nagpal informed that Shell had undertaken pilot projects based on data collection on a macro level, during which it was found that the needs of the rental and institutional customers are the same.

“However, on examining the data, we found that the scope for improving profitability is immense, provided equipment users follow the right operational practices. In some projects, for instance in the mining sector, we were able to reduce per hour production costs. We are identifying more areas where the lacunae are, to provide the right solutions,” they said.
