Tiger Logistics: A Project Specialist

Every project has its importance due to its structure, engineering and associated challenges. The TAT in completion of any project is different due to the specifications and the most important part is its safety and security. But when it comes to a defence project, there are several other measurements and diversifications of risks.

Sindhu Kesari
Tiger Logistics is a leader in project specialisation across the globe, including defence projects. Our expertise in this niche field and rich experience have led to an association with DRDO, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, United Nation Peace Keeping Mission, and several other defence departments at both state and national levels for undertaking defence projects.

We have moved (import & export) of AEWACS; Airborne Early Warning & Control Systems, machineries of INS Sindhukesari (S-60), Army Trucks (Ashok Leyland), troops and necessary food and medical aids at war zones, import of Aircraft EMB-145 from Brazil, and have also moved equipment and other vital export and import products through water and air to their destinations. Our specialization in project handling of any type along with providing integrated, value-creating solutions to world's major industries, have helped our clients and associates manage their project requirements from any part of the world.

Tiger Logistics entered the defence arena in 2005 after only five years of experience. However, we took on the challenges and risks based on our knowledge of defence, project awareness, our highly skilled engineers, and a strong professional approach. To be involved in Defence logistics makes us proud as we are serving the nation and in a highly responsible way. Every cargo and every movement are very sensitive and need attentive care and attention as there are certain protocols to be followed. The security paroles are required in each shipment, and a MoU has to be signed before each assignment starts. Strict confidentiality is maintained at every step and we can’t share any details in the market nor can we talk about our achievement, until its done or the concerned department give us the permission. We have to provide a dedicated project engineer in India as well as in foreign land. The project can be changed anytime, and we have to move accordingly and follow the instructions, without raising any objections.

INS Sindhu Kesari (S-60): This is a Sindhughosh-class diesel-electric submarine of the Indian Navy. We imported its turbine and other important machinery from Russia for the Indian Navy. Complete Logistics and Transportation was undertaken by Tiger Logistics in 2016 and 2017.

AEWACS (Airborne Early Warning And Control Systems): This is an airborne radar picket system designed to detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and perform command and control of the battle space in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes. Tiger Logistics undertook import of AEWACS many times. The biggest challenge is the movement through international borders and getting security permissions. We completed such imports from countries such as Israel, Germany and Russia, in co-ordination with the Indian Air Force and DRDO in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2016.

Aircraft EMB – 145: The Embraer ERJ family is a series of twin-engine regional jets produced by Embraer - a Brazilian aerospace company. Aircraft in the series include the R-99 family of military aircraft. The jet in the series is powered by two turbofan engines; we imported it from Brazil in co-ordination with the IAF and DRDO in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Airborne KW3555

Overseas Military Aid: Ocean Export under United Nations Peace Keeping Mission from India to Congo and Sudan for Indian Air Force in 2010.

War Trucks: Ashok Leyland Trucks under United Nations Peace Mission, a help from India to Afghanistan during the Afghanistan War, was exported by Tiger Logistics in the year 2001.

In the tough market place of today we have fought many a war and taken the company to new heights. When anyone said it was not possible, we out-did our self and wrote history - be it the Salma Dam Project in war-stricken Afghanistan or in high crime areas in the interiors of Columbia where no company was willing to operate. When cargo had to be delivered to the interiors of East Africa where high poles had been commissioned, we thought out-of-the-box, and worked with the government to get the height increased and ensured that the cargo was delivered spot on time.

Our competitive edge lies in our being true to the core values of honesty, safety and hard work. We have a robust back-end, which is a vital pre-requisite for a committed logistics business. We are handling project shipments for reputed organisations like ISGEC, ABB, and BHEL for heavy and machinery goods, and with Indian Oil for their various verticals and different technical requirements.

Our wide range of services include transportation of Cargo, Heavy Lifts and Turnkey Projects, Packaging Solutions, Air Freight Services, as well as Customs Clearance and Trade Compliance, Perishable Items, Warehousing and Distribution, Ocean Freight Forwarding, RORO Operations, Charter Services & Cold Chain Logistics. Our clients are from important fields such as Automobiles, Textile Plants, Retail, Agriculture, Iron and Steel, Cement, Infrastructure, Telecommunication and Transmission and Distribution. We provide cost-effective, error-free and efficient service for any kind of project requirement with timely completion. Our thoroughly professional approach to any assignment - be it a small project or a big project - has made us the customer’s first choice.

Pressure Vessel

Tiger Logistics has collaborative consultation approach with its clients at every step. Shipping is done using heavy machinery such as fork lifts, surveying equipment, barges, cranes and trailers, that perform any type of carrying or lifting no matter what the overall height and/or weight is. Our team of professionals are aware of all the domestic and international shipping rules, and all laws and codes pertaining to the regions / countries. We see each shipment as a new opportunity. Every new solution adds to the wealth of our experience, and thereby to our competence and credibility. We provide integrated end-to-end solutions tailored to our customers' supply chain management needs. We do not take a cookie cutter approach; rather, we ensure that our client’s business is given due service with timely completion, and cost-effectively too.

As a leading 3PL company in the Indian logistics market, it has proven its leadership time and again, and remained competitive against better-established and better funded companies. It uses advanced technologies like customer redressal system, mobile applications, GPS tracking and cloud computing to improve communications, logistics, and inventory tracking. This boosts customer trust and brand loyalty as our vision is to create a sustainable business with employee satisfaction and loyalty.

Pipe Bending

Tiger Logistics has become the 9th Indian Logistics company to be listed on the main board of BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and is registered as an AEO (Authorised Economic Operator). Today, we have a staff strength of over 375, a fleet of 159 vehicles and 14 offices in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Veraval, Mundra, Hazira, Vadodara, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Bengaluru, and Chennai) and one 1 in Singapore, and a network of reputed agents and associates around the world.

As a service provider involved in MTO (multimodal transport operations), we are engaged in Transportation and Customs clearance activities for handling of project cargo across North, West and East India. Our ISO 9001:2015 certification demonstrates the new height of standards we have created in the logistics industry, as does our client list of top Asian companies like LG, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, and Bajaj.

Third-party Logistics market in India can be divided into segments based on logistics, which includes transportation, warehousing, freight and forwarding, and value-added services. Besides being a specialist in these, we provide value-added services such as MIS in the supply chain and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). In case of a customised ERP involving development with a System Integrator (SI), most of the generic SIs have limited domain knowledge of the logistics business, so the cost of a project will not only shoot up but also cause further delays in system rollout. Also, such developers have a high sourcing cost.

Therefore, one needs to invest in a vendor who has an established product and has the inherent capability to enhance the solution based on industry needs. This is crucial in reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the LSP. However, a common dilemma faced by key project evaluation teams at leading global logistics service providers (LSPs) today is whether to customise their existing ERP for logistics business or to choose a proven logistics solution provider. Each approach has its own merits and the best way to go about before taking this crucial decision is to look at the critical success factors (CSFs) that impact business. In evaluating an enterprise IT solution, apart from CSFs like project cost, implementation timeframes and risks related to vendor's capability, a project manager needs to also consider whether either of these IT options are aligned with the larger business goals.
