Mammoet Transports 420 tons Nacelle on NICOLAS MHD G II

NICOLAS MHD GII
The NICOLAS MHD G II handles concentrated loads easily, here shown with a 420 ton nacelle
The Østerild Wind Turbine Test Field in Denmark is used for testing of wind turbines with an overall height up to 250 meters. Blades with up to 110 meters can be tested there – of course, the according nacelles are huge and extremely heavy. To deal with such a concentrated load of 420 tons, Mammoet recently used 21 axle lines of NICOLAS MHD G II modular transporters.

After unloading at Hanstholm harbor, the nacelle was securely fixed on the NICOLAS MHD G II with special load spreaders. To match the requirements of the load concerning weight and measures, a so-called 3-file combination was put together, consisting of several standard vehicles in longitudional coupling attached to one row of split "halves". This combination ensures an excellent tilting stability despite the high center of gravity of the load. In total, the transport combination had a height of 11,60 meters and a length of 71,0 meters on 252 wheels.

The NICOLAS MHD G II 3-file combination ensures a high tilting stability, despite the high center of gravity of the load.
"The NICOLAS MHD G II is ideally suited for the wind industry", says Lars Schoedt, Area Manager Sales at TII Sales. "With the second generation of this proven vehicle, we provide the specifications the industry needs - no matter if we are talking about the impressive bending moment, a multitude of precise steering modes or the sturdiness and long-term reliability of the NICOLAS MHD G2".

The NICOLAS MHD G II is available as 2-,3-,4-,5- and 6-axle module. A self-propelled version of the MHD G II is also successfully in use as an automatically guided vehicle: The transport of nacelles during the production process without any operators once more underlines the multitude of technical possibilities the MHD G II offers.
