Potain MC115B works on prestigious project in Mumbai

Manitowoc's Potain tower crane MC 115B is working on one of Mumbai's most prestigious projects. M/S Vijay Associates (Wadhwa) Developers, bought two units of the MC115B tower cranes to work on two projects - a residential tower and a commercial building in the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. One of the cranes, a Potain MC115B, was commissioned in May this year and has been working around the clock to complete the project in time.

The Potain MC115B is working at the C70 commercial building project, an aesthetically designed architectural marvel in the heart of the International Finance and Business Centre of Bandra Kurla Complex, a standalone high-tech corporate building called The Capital.

The MC115B is working 18 to 20 hours a day at the site in three shifts, lifting heavy steel bars, beams and channels; and aluminium/steel formwork systems. The crane, with a jib length of 55m and hook under height of 44m, is also working on the concreting works by lifting concrete buckets. The weight of the loads varies from 3t to 4t. The cranes will stay on site until late 2010 when the project is completed.

Mr Hasmukh Upadhyay, the chief engineer at Vijay Associates (Wadhwa) Developers wanted cranes he could rely on.

"We chose to buy Manitowoc's Potain tower cranes because of their popularity in India, their excellent after sales service and the fact that they have a factory in India to manufacture the cranes," said Mr. Upadhyay.

The crane was also specified to meet the special lifting needs of the project which included loads of 1.6t at 55m and 3.7t at 30m.

Mr Ashwani Mattoo, national sales manager for tower cranes in India at Manitowoc Cranes, said Vijay Associates (Wadhwa) Developers made the right decision in choosing the Potain tower cranes.

"Using manpower to do lifting jobs is a thing of the past. Customers, like Vijay Associates (Wadhwa) Developers, are starting to see the value in investing in high quality Potain tower cranes which saves them time and costs," he added.

Mr Upadhyay also said that the tower cranes are performing extremely well. "We are currently using top-down construction to complete this high volume project in record time using the MC115B. This is a very sturdy crane with an outstanding overall efficiency. The Potain MC115B gives a better output during lifting operations than the other cranes we have in our fleet," he added.
